Climate in Sri Lanka at a glance

In the North and Northeast of Sri Lanka, a weaker “Maha” monsoon brings rain between December and February. The period from December to January is the wettest period during Maha monsoon on the north and eastern coasts.

Best months to visit Sri Lanka

In general, the best time to visit Sri Lanka is from December to mid-April. During these months, most of the island experience sunny weather with mild temperatures. Therefore, this period is the busiest time of the island and a perfect time to escape from the winter.

Traveling to Sri Lanka during off-season also has its advantages, if you don’t mind getting a little bit wet from the rain. The biggest advantages are obviously the lower prices and fewer crowds. Also, the rain brings a totally different kind of charm to Sri Lanka’s lush green landscapes and pristine nature. Most of the time these rainfalls occurs as short downpours and doesn’t last all day long.
